most people have multiple hats!</p>
<p>what are competences and how to use them.<br />
as a guide to determinate how to use for staff:<br />
improve your own skills!<br />
tech training is important because..<br />
libraries are sometimes the only providers of information. (denk aan Lutjebroek)</p>
<p>73% of rural libraries are the only provider of free internet!<br />
people advice you to go to the library to get help with internet technology! why? and can we?</p>
<p>have you helped people to learn about technology?<br />
think about taxes, online searches.. older people.., people without money to buy a computer or have internet-access.</p>
<p>67% received one-on-one help from library staff<br />
14% attended a computer training at the library</p>
<p>librarians are always friendly and helpfull!<br />
equal access etc. etc. blahblahblah, but true<br />
and its free (still)</p>
<p>if you give a man a fish he will eat one day<br />
if you teach him how to fish he will eat his whole life!</p>
<p>statistics are for the U.S.(!)</p>
<p>Competences: (lead to success)<br />
measurable skills &amp; knowledge<br />
standard of confidences. (classroom or one-on-one)<br />
instructions are here to stay with libraries and we have to make sure we are up to it.</p>
<p>make clear the expectancies for the instructors:<br />
what are they supposed to do?</p>
<p>competency:<br />
receive feedback and respond by adapting:<br />
skill: check in with learners<br />
adapt classroom activities<br />
allow learners time to evaluate</p>
<p>1.good at tech<br />
2.good at teaching (1.&amp;2. do not equal…!!!!)</p>
<p>think: jargon, abbreviations etc.<br />
what values are important?</p>
<p>increase staff knowledge and skills<br />
(about adult learning styles f.e.)<br />
understand strenghts and weaknesses<br />
Improve customer service:<br />
transfer knowledge about technology!! (not only perform the technology)<br />
establish standards:<br />
(with competencies)<br />
to establish whether you have a good staff..</p>
<p>learn 21th century literary skills<br />
different sorts of media.<br />
trainer needs to stay in touch with</p>
<p>create a culture of learning..<br />
growth, learning never stops,<br />
let learner choose their own areas<br />
lifelong learning = for customers as well!</p>

organisation-administrations need to support this!<br />
organization may organize their own training!</p>

<p>15 minutes set aside for personal learning (per day??)</p>
<p>Learn how to look for technology-stuff as well (you don&#8217;t&#8217; always know everything about china&#8217;s growth -figures in 1973…., but you do know how to find it)<br />
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know either, we will learn together&#8221;</p>
<p>Role-change for librarians during their time in libraries..:<br />
what training do you need to support new technology related duties?<br />
Can you overcome your fear and start learning? You have to be able to do your job and your job is to know about technology.<br />
How to hook people on technology? (give everybody an iPad!!mm)<br />
100% enthusiasm is not possible.<br />
how do you train staff, when they don&#8217;s want to be trained or don&#8217;t have time?<br />
training is going to make it better in the long run.. (hmmm)<br />
make it part of the job!</p>

<p>*Get staff to stop saying &#8220;I don&#8217;t know&#8221; and to start saying &#8220;Let&#8217;s find out.&#8221;</p>
<p>*it is changing so quickly that to keep up we have to join online communties&#8230; apps, software, eReaders&#8230;info literacy &#8230; free range learners and on and on</p>
<p>*schedule set times for training for staff and librarians</p>
<p>*organise training programs</p>
<p>*competencies should include standards for administrators/boards on training &amp; competencies</p>
<p>*Using Snagit to make &#8220;screen picture&#8221; step by step instructions works well</p>

<p>Zomaar een regeltje in een artikel over de net iets andere Googlepagina- indeling en de manier waarop mensen zoeken. Ook in de bibliotheek merk je dat mensen de &#8220;geavanceerd zoeken&#8221; pagina meestal niet kennen of willen gebruiken. Dus op naar de federated search, waar je je resultaten achteraf kunt verkleinen?</p>
